Job Description:
The selected candidate will support the Waco Manufacturing Team by assisting in the analysis and design of production workflows, equipment layouts, and operational sequences. Under the guidance of experienced engineers, the intern will help identify opportunities to improve efficiency, enhance resource utilization, and streamline processes across plant and production facilities. The intern will contribute to safety and operational improvement initiatives by assisting with the development of accident-prevention measures, updating training materials, and participating in reviews of standard production practices.
This role will also involve supporting cost, schedule, and inventory studies by gathering data, organizing findings, and helping prepare reports used in decision-making. Based on these studies, the intern may help develop recommendations or draft proposals for facility modifications or updates to operating methods.
In addition, the intern may collaborate with facilities engineers to support the planning and design of facility infrastructure improvements, including researching requirements, preparing layouts, and assisting with documentation efforts.
Responsibilities
- Assist with basic analysis and documentation of production workflows, equipment layouts, and process steps to help identify efficiency opportunities under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Support safety and process improvement activities by helping gather data, update training materials, and participate in reviews related to accident prevention and production operations.
- Help conduct studies on cost, schedule, inventory, and production records, including collecting data, organizing findings, and preparing reports for engineering and operations teams.
- Provide support to facilities engineers by assisting with drafting updates, performing research, and helping prepare layouts or documentation for facility infrastructure projects.
- Provide hands-on support to Hangar, Dock, and Line (HDL) operations, including helping with root-cause data collection, workflow observations, pre-induction preparation, and updates to standardized work or visual management tools.
- Exposure to aircraft maintenance, repair & overhaul (MRO) operations; previous coursework in aerospace or mechanical systems is a plus but not required.
- Assist with performance tracking activities, compiling savings data, and helping prepare summary materials.
- Help develop and maintain labor standards by performing time-study observations, recording process data, and assisting engineers in validating standard work for manufacturing or supply chain processes.
Essential Functions:
- Provides direct support to Hangar, Dock, and Line (HDL) through problem root cause analysis and improvement recommendations/implementation; pre-induction setup; improvement efforts directed toward workflow, work sequencing, work area layout, standardized work, development and training of metrics, and input processes to HDL efforts to ensure the safe and efficient utilization of time, personnel, material, equipment, and capital resources. Aircraft MRO (maintenance, repair & overhaul) experience a plus.
- Assist with developing, validating, implementing, and maintaining labor standards for a variety of manufacturing and supply chain processes.
- Work jointly with cross-functional engineering groups performing concurrent engineering and producibility analysis.
- Develop and implement tools/methods for measuring productivity and program cost performance (EAC/ETC)
- Pull, analyze, and report data to support Manufacturing/Supply Chain Management in making key decisions
Qualifications:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Skills:
- Works under moderate supervision to set objectives for own job area
- Fluent in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint applications.
- Perform work measurement and process flow analysis while developing manufacturing metrics
- Implement process improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing techniques
- Preferred Additional Skills: Black Belt, Green Belt and/or Lean Certification highly desirable
- Ability and drive to develop and implement innovative solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
- Working knowledge of manufacturing and/or supply chain/logistics methods and processes
- SAP-Business Warehouse software applications
