Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking an Associate Manager, Manufacturing Engineering to lead a team of manufacturing engineers supporting Malabar production and Palm Bay development programs. This role is responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining manufacturing methods for complex electronic and electro-mechanical assemblies with focus on safety, quality, delivery, cost, and throughput performance. The leader guides engineering support for production hardware, drives continuous improvement, and manages team workload and priorities. It’s also responsible to support the programs through development on to transition to production. This position requires strong technical judgment, demonstrated leadership capabilities, and knowledge of both production and development programs.
The selected candidate will lead process improvement efforts, drive resolution of manufacturing issues, and work cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Test, Reliability, Design Engineering, Supply Chain, and Program teams to achieve production and program objectives. They will coordinate manufacturing readiness for development programs, new product introductions, process changes, and configuration updates.
Essential Functions:
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the manufacturing engineering team to ensure safe, repeatable, and efficient processes that meet quality, delivery, and operational goals.
- Oversee and prioritize the development, implementation, optimization, and sustainment of manufacturing processes across all Malabar program hardware, ensuring alignment with business and program objectives.
- Direct the creation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Assembly Method Sheets (AMS), work instructions, process flows, tooling requirements, and associated documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Evaluate organizational and process-level constraints, assess risks, and drive implementation of systemic solutions to improve producibility, yield, cycle time, and manufacturing capacity.
- Lead the strategy, approval, and oversight of manufacturing tool and fixture development, focusing on mistake-proofing, ergonomics, standardization, and operator effectiveness.
- Provide oversight and direction for automation strategies, smart tool integration, and advanced manufacturing technologies to enhance workforce efficiency and operational capability.
- Develop personnel through coaching, mentoring, performance management, and technical guidance to build a strong, high-performing engineering organization.
- Serve as the primary manufacturing engineering leadership interface for internal and external customers, ensuring clear communication, alignment, and timely issue resolution.
- Lead and oversee comprehensive root cause investigations, ensuring effective corrective and preventive actions that strengthen manufacturing processes and reduce recurrence.
- Oversee MRB activities and ensure timely, accurate dispositioning of discrepant hardware, trend analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Approve engineering changes, drawing revisions, and configuration updates, ensuring readiness and smooth integration into production workflows.
- Strategically analyze workflow, labor utilization, line balancing, and material flow to improve operational efficiency, capacity, and throughput.
- Use engineering, operational, and organizational metrics to monitor performance, influence decision-making, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Oversee manufacturing readiness activities for development programs and new product introductions, ensuring manpower, tooling, documentation, and processes are established for successful execution.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree with 6 years of relevant experience, OR Graduate Degree with 4 years, OR 10 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
- Experience with electronics manufacturing processes (CCAs, cable assemblies, electro-mechanical assemblies).
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.
- Experience with manufacturing documentation, process control, and engineering change implementation.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Working knowledge and general understanding of IPC-A-610, J-STD-001 and AS9100.
- Background in manufacturing of electronics for Military and Government Systems
- Experience in Lean principles; mistake proofing, 3P, 5S+1, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Root Cause Analysis, Cause & Effect, Gemba, Pull-Flow, etc
- Ability to obtain Secret Clearance preferred but not required.
- Familiarity in Control or similar MRP based system and Aegis based Manufacturing Execution System
- Knowledge of Manufacturing Execution System (i.e. Fusion V7, FactoryLogix, Solumina)
- Automated manufacturing equipment process development
- Knowledge in PTC CREO, technical writing, MS Project and/or MS SharePoint.
- Strong analytical and problems solving skills
