Job Description
We are seeking a Calibration and Metrology Quality Engineerto join our growing team at the Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Huntsville, AL. In this pivotal role, you will lead calibration and metrology operations, serving as a technical bridge between manufacturing teams, engineering, and our third‑party laboratory to ensure all measurement systems meet regulatory standards. You will oversee calibration workflows, ensure compliance with industry regulations, and drive quality assurance initiatives that directly support mission‑critical production. Essential Functions
Coordinate external calibration service providers and ensure vendor calibrations meet traceability and documentation requirements per AS9100 and ISO 17025.
Evaluate and lead out‑of‑tolerance condition investigations and support impact assessments when measurement instruments are identified as out of calibration.
Lead internal and external audits related to calibration and quality systems.
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and QA teams to resolve calibration‑related issues.
Serve as the subject matter expert for metrology and calibration operations, providing technical leadership, developing procedures, and mentoring team members on measurement best practices.
Work cross‑functionally to implement quality control measures that ensure the accuracy and reliability of tools critical to production processes.
Lead metrology development projects, including the design, implementation, and validation of new instrumentation and measurement methods.
Support Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) studies for problem‑solving initiatives and new product launch qualifications as they relate to calibration and metrology.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4 years of related experience, OR a graduate degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience, OR in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of related experience.
Extensive experience in calibration, metrology, or measurement systems within a manufacturing environment.
Experience working within quality management systems such as ISO 9001 or AS9100.
Strong understanding of calibration traceability, measurement uncertainty, and measurement system reliability.
Ability to remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time.
Valid driver’s license required.
Travel less than 10%.
Preferred Additional Skills
Experience using Microsoft Power Platform tools (Power BI, Power Automate, SharePoint) to develop quality metric dashboards and automate calibration workflows.
Hands‑on experience with dimensional measurement equipment and calibration procedures.
Project management experience, with formal training or certification (PMP, Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, or Lean certification) applied to quality systems, calibration programs, or process improvement initiatives.
Experience maintaining a calibrated asset inventory using calibration management software (such as GageTrack or similar), ensuring all equipment is tracked, scheduled, and documented according to defined calibration requirements.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance.
