Job Description:

L3Harris is seeking a highly driven Electrical Design Engineer to support the design and development of advanced Ground Support Equipment for use in testing and simulation of space‑to‑ground communication systems. In this role, will play a key role in the design, development, integration, and sustainment of electrical test systems that support space-based imaging payloads, spacecraft electronics, and onboard subsystems. You will be part of a collaborative engineering environment focused on innovation, rapid development, and precision execution.

Essential Functions:

• Develop electrical ground support equipment and automated test systems to support assembly, integration, and verification of space-based imaging payloads and spacecraft electronics.
• Design and implement simulation environments for spacecraft buses, payload interfaces, and electrical subsystems.
• Integrate instrumentation, power systems, communication interfaces, and control hardware into cohesive, maintainable EGSE solutions.
• Support hardware bring-up, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis during test execution.
• Collaborate with systems engineering to interpret requirements and allocate test capabilities.
• Ensure EGSE systems meet program performance, reliability, safety, and compliance requirements.
• Generate engineering documentation including schematics, wiring diagrams, ICDs, acceptance test reports, and configuration records.
• Provide technical support during environmental test campaigns, functional validation, and spacecraft-level integration activities.
• Drive continuous improvement in test architecture, automation, and standardization across the product line.
• Ability to obtain a US security clearance.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Experience developing electronic test equipment, simulation systems, or automated test platforms.
• Proficiency with electrical design fundamentals, digital/analog interfaces, and power system design.

• Hands-on experience with lab instrumentation (DMM, power supplies, scopes, logic analyzers).
• Ability to interpret requirements, schematics, and interface control documents.
• Experience with troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and verification methodologies.
• Experience designing for a space environment.
• Hold a current security Clearance or the ability to obtain a security clearance
• Experience with PCB design tools (Altium, Cadence Allegro, or similar).
• Experience in high‑volume or mission‑critical manufacturing environments
• Knowledge of FPGA-based interfaces or embedded systems.
• Prior experience supporting integration and test of aerospace or defense products.
• Experience with configuration management tools and formal test documentation.
• Experience leading teams and project designs
• Trade study execution and ownership
• Problem-solving skills with ability to proactively identify alternate solutions to overcome difficult technical challenges.
• Provide mentorship to early career engineers
