The Missile Solutions segment at the L3Harris Canoga Park, CA site is seeking an Associate, Materials Process Engineer to join the engineering materials process team.
We are looking for an entry-level with broad theoretical job knowledge in materials characterization, mechanical testing, and materials property engineering. The candidate will work under general direction and guidance within standard processes for non-routine tasks. Contribute to systems and process changes in work routines. Support engineering efforts related to material property curve generation, design allowables development and testing plans, fracture mechanics characterization, and nonconformance resolution (NCR) material property support.
Essential Functions:
- Support the generation of material property curves for use in design allowables, fracture mechanics analyses, and nonconformance report (NCR) dispositions in accordance with applicable command media and engineering standards.
- Assist in planning, executing, and documenting mechanical and materials characterization testing programs including tensile, fatigue, fracture toughness, crack growth, and other property-specific evaluations.
- Interpret and apply applicable command media requirements (e.g., internal engineering standards governing material property testing and data generation) to ensure compliant and traceable test execution and data reporting.
- Support development and maintenance of material property databases and design allowables documentation used by design and stress engineering communities.
- Evaluate raw test data for validity, consistency, and compliance with applicable specifications and standards.
- Work with cross-functional teams including design engineering, stress analysis, manufacturing, quality, and materials engineering to ensure material property data meets program and customer requirements.
- Prepare technical reports, data packages, test plans, work instructions, and process documentation in support of material property programs.
Qualifications:
- To be eligible, applicants must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field or have completed their bachelor’s degree within the last 12 months, regardless of age.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Excel) for processing and presenting material property test data.
- Familiarity with ASTM mechanical testing standards.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C. area, Denver, or NYC areas is $68,000 - $126,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
