Job Description:
The Manager, Electrical Engineering leads a multidisciplinary product development team responsible for the design, development, and delivery of embedded hardware systems for airborne telemetry, radio frequency (RF), secure communications, and flight‑critical aerospace applications at L3Harris’s TRF Bristol site. This role is accountable for leading people, workforce planning, and disciplined execution of product development activities to ensure hardware meets technical, schedule, cost, quality, cybersecurity, and customer requirements. The position works across engineering and program functions to strengthen embedded hardware architecture, programmable logic development, very‑high‑speed integrated circuit hardware description language (VHDL) implementation, hardware integration, test, and technical review readiness. The successful candidate will join a collaborative engineering organization focused on delivering high‑reliability, ruggedized solutions for United States and allied aerospace and defense platforms.
Essential Functions:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary product development team across Electrical, Firmware and Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), Software, and Mechanical Engineering.
- Direct product development activities from concept and architecture through design, verification, qualification, production transition, and sustainment.
- Provide technical oversight for embedded hardware development, including circuit design, power, analog and mixed-signal design, programmable logic, printed circuit board implementation, embedded interfaces, and mechanical packaging.
- Guide Hardware Description Language (HDL) development for programmable logic devices, including implementation, simulation, synthesis, verification, and integration into embedded systems
- Ensure products are developed in alignment with technical, schedule, cost, quality, manufacturability, and supportability objectives.
- Lead or support formal engineering reviews, including System Requirements Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, Test Readiness Review, and production readiness reviews.
- Oversee requirements development, allocation, interface definition, traceability, configuration control, and release of controlled engineering baselines and design documentation.
- Partner with Project Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Test Engineering, and other functional teams to support integrated program execution and transition to production.
- Support workforce forecasting, staffing plans, resource allocation, employee development, and short-term operational planning aligned with business and program needs.
- Promote disciplined engineering processes, lifecycle execution, digital engineering tools, and continuous improvement in design quality, documentation, and release consistency.
- Support engineering program reviews, staffing updates, basis of estimate inputs, proposal activities, and customer review readiness.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 9 years of prior related experience; or a graduate degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience; or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in an engineering leadership role, such as engineering manager, team lead, functional lead, integrated product team lead, or project engineering lead.
- Minimum 5 years of experience supporting the design, development, integration, test, or qualification of embedded hardware, electronic assemblies, or other complex hardware systems.
- Experience in Electrical Engineering for hardware product development, including one or more of the following: power, analog, mixed-signal, digital hardware, programmable logic, printed circuit board design, or electronic subsystem integration.
- Experience with product development processes including requirements management, configuration control, design documentation, verification and validation, and release of engineering baselines.
- Experience leading or supporting formal technical reviews such as Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, Test Readiness Review, or production readiness reviews.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a United States Secret security clearance.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Active U.S. Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
- Experience leading embedded hardware product development for airborne, ruggedized, secure communications, telemetry, or radio frequency applications.
- Experience developing or integrating Field‑Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) designs, including Hardware Description Language (HDL) development, hardware and software integration, and timing closure using Static Timing Analysis (STA).
- Experience supporting qualification, environmental testing, and performance validation for ruggedized or airborne hardware.
- Familiarity with digital engineering environments, requirements management tools, and product lifecycle management systems.
- Experience supporting proposal efforts, Basis of Estimate (BOE) development, customer technical reviews, or new product introduction activities.
- Familiarity with communications security hardware, information assurance hardware, or National Security Agency Type 1 cryptographic systems.
- Project Management Professional or relevant engineering leadership certification.
