Michael Meyer is a Systems Engineering Lead, U.S. Air Force veteran and member of our Supporting Emergency Responders and Veterans Engagement (SERVE) Employee Resource Group (ERG). He has been a part of our team in San Antonio for over five years, during that time showing continued dedication to supporting the military and veteran community.
As a former intelligence and foreign affairs officer in the U.S. Air Force with 27 years of service, Michael wanted a civilian career where he could serve his country in a new way. “I chose L3Harris,” he explains, “because it allowed me to continue to support the military in a capability integration consulting role … and that was exciting to me.” Michael’s military experience makes him uniquely suited to this role, where he develops new ways for the U.S. Air Force to integrate intelligence, cyber, communications and electronic warfare operations.
For Michael, connecting with his fellow veterans was key when transitioning out of the military and into the civilian workforce. “L3Harris supported my transition,” he says, “by allowing me to pair with other veterans and talk to them about their experiences in L3Harris.” Michael now offers that same support to other veterans through our partnership with American Corporate Partners (ACP). As an ACP mentor, Michael provides guidance to veterans interested in growing their civilian careers with us. He was connected to this opportunity, and many others, when he became involved with our SERVE initiatives and ERG.
“SERVE has been such a positive experience for me,” Michael says, “it has allowed me to meet other veterans; look at other opportunities in L3Harris as I continue my career.” Among those opportunities are the initiatives that he and his fellow members have worked on together, such as stand-up paddle board events for veterans. “L3Harris has allowed me to be a leader in bringing that emotional and physical health out into communities,” Michael explains.
Throughout his military and civilian careers, Michael has demonstrated a passion for serving others. “The military is all encompassing,” he explains, “and it’s hard sometimes when you transition out into a civilian life to find that same mission and purpose.” For that reason, he is grateful to be growing a civilian career that lets him continue his legacy of service in a new way, for a company that supports the warfighter. “The beauty of L3Harris [is that] we’re still serving our country,” he says, “maybe [in] a different uniform, maybe [in] a little different capacity, but we’re still serving our country.”
