Job Description:
Seeking a mid-career Materials Process Engineer to support Specialty Engineering by developing, evaluating, and improving materials and manufacturing processes that ensure product performance, reliability, and compliance with technical requirements. This role partners with design, production, and sustainment teams to lead material selection, process qualification, failure analysis, and manufacturing issue resolution. The ideal candidate will collaborate across disciplines to optimize processes, reduce risk, and ensure compliance with customer, industry, and internal standards.
Essential Functions:
• Develop, evaluate, and improve materials and manufacturing processes to meet performance, reliability, cost, and producibility requirements.
• Support material selection and process definition for new and existing products across design, production, and sustainment efforts.
• Lead process qualification, validation, and implementation activities to ensure compliance with technical, customer, and regulatory requirements.
• Investigate material- and process-related failures, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Provide engineering support to resolve manufacturing issues and improve process capability, yield, and consistency.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design engineering, quality, manufacturing, suppliers, and program management.
• Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and standards related to materials and processing requirements.
• Prepare technical documentation, test plans, reports, and engineering recommendations to support product and process decisions.
• Evaluate supplier materials and special processes to ensure quality, capability, and conformance to requirements.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on risk reduction, product reliability, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in materials, manufacturing processes, or specialty engineering, ideally in aerospace.
• Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Preferred Additional Skills:
• Advanced degree in Materials Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
• Experience with supplier qualification, special process oversight, or production support.
• Knowledge of applicable industry and military standards related to materials and processes.
• Knowledge of quality systems, continuous improvement methods, and risk reduction practices.
• Experience with material selection, process development, qualification, and validation in a production or regulated environment.
• Knowledge of metals, polymers, composites, coatings, adhesives, or other engineering materials and their associated processing methods.
• Ability to investigate material- and process-related issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes, special processes, and process control methods used in aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability industries.
• Familiarity with failure analysis techniques, nondestructive testing, and laboratory test methods.
• Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, industry standards, and customer requirements.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports, procedures, and engineering recommendations.
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams with design, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and program stakeholders.
• Proficiency with standard engineering and data analysis tools.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Massachusetts is $92,500.00 - $171,500.00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
