Job Description:
As a key leader, this person will take over the western hemisphere IT team, providing guidance, management, and coaching to ensure the team operates at its highest potential. They will drive a significant transformation project to success, leveraging their expertise to navigate challenges and deliver exceptional results. Achieving excellence in the provision of ongoing IT services will be a central focus, ensuring seamless and efficient operations. Additionally, they will prioritize the security, resilience, and integrity of the IT infrastructure, safeguarding systems and data against potential threats and ensuring robust, continuous performance.

Success in this role is achieved when the transformation project is implemented successfully, customer satisfaction reaches industry standard benchmarks, the IT team operates as a cohesive, high-performing unit with clear processes, accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement, and cybersecurity audits present a clean bill of health.

This person will be joining the company at a pivotal moment. The leadership team has evolved significantly over the past year, with new leaders taking steps to enhance governance, build trust, and establish a more robust operational foundation. To realize this vision, the leadership is committed to substantial investment in both personnel and capital. The company currently has a workforce of around 150 people, primarily composed of software engineers and researchers, with a smaller portion of management and support staff. The global IT team is currently comprised of 6 individuals (excluding management), but there are plans to significantly expand the team’s size and upgrade key areas of technology. In this role, this person will initially manage direct reports, with expectations to grow the team within the year.


Technical Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring continued suitability of IT services to evolving business demands
  • Ensuring timely and effective remediation of issues
  • Overseeing incident management activities and serving as the point of escalation
  • Providing expert analysis of complex technological challenges
  • Ensuring the integrity of IT infrastructure in the face of targeted and sophisticated cyberattacks

  • Communicating and reinforcing business objectives within the team
  • Distilling the essence of complicated technical challenges into forms suitable for effective decision making by business-focused senior leadership
  • Promoting quality, continuous improvement and accountability

About You

You are a seasoned professional with proven expertise in technical and personnel management. Our technical stack includes various elements, and while you don't need to be an expert in all of them, you must have deep knowledge in some and be able to guide your team, make informed decisions, and engage credibly with specialists.

  • Server environments: Linux (debugging Linux at Shell and Application level)
  • Network Appliances: Junos OS, DNOS, Cisco iOS, pfSense
  • Layers 1,2,3 and 4 network design for globally distributed sites, Ethernet, VLAN, STP, ARP, VRRP, OSPF, BGP, QoS, TCP/UDP etc.
  • VPNs: IPSec, Wireguard and OpenVPN
  • Network Attached Storage: TrueNAS, NetApp and Dell PowerStore
  • Virtualization: VMWare or similar.
  • Containerisation: Docker and Kubernetes
  • Deployment/automation: Ansible, Terraform, Python, Bash, etc
  • Cloud: AWS services (ec2, s3, lambda, route66, etc)
  • Developer applications: Gitlab, Artifactory, Atlassian Tools
  • Desktop Environments: Linux, MacOS, Windows
  • Mobile Environments: Apple iOS, Android
  • Mobile Device Management tools
  • Endpoint monitoring, XDR, SIEM, SASE, etc
  • Monitoring for system health: Prometheus/Grafana, SNMP, etc
  • Custom script development: Python and Bash

You probably have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • More than 10 years of directly relevant professional experience
  • Prior experience leading a team through organizational change
  • Prior success having developed and executed a multi-year technology strategy
  • You must be eligible to obtain a security clearance. Holding a current security clearance is a plus
  • Prior experience designing constrained IT solutions in the US Defense Industrial Base or US Intelligence Community is a plus


Work Type

  • Full-time permanent.
  • Hybrid: 25% in-office, occasional travel to office as needed
  • Primary work location: downtown Washington, DC.
  • Corporate HQ: Melbourne, FLA.
  • Domestic travel (up to 15%) will be required, mainly around the DC area and along the eastern seaboard.
  • International travel will be required, typically 1 to 5 times per year.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Washington D.C. is $116,500 to $216,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
