Job Description:

Are you mechanically minded, eager to learn, and looking to launch a career in one of the most exciting fields in defense technology? This position is your entry point into the world of electro-optical (EO) systems — the advanced sensor technology that powers airborne surveillance platforms used by military, law enforcement, and homeland security agencies around the world.

As a Level B Technician, you will train alongside experienced Field Service Representatives (FSRs) to learn how to repair, test, and maintain Wescam MX-Series airborne surveillance turrets — some of the most sophisticated imaging systems in the defense industry. This is a hands-on, structured learning role designed to build your technical skills from the ground up.

At the Level B stage, you are a developing support individual contributor. You will work under general supervision, meaning you will have experienced technicians and leaders available to guide you, but you will also be expected to begin exercising your own judgment within clearly defined boundaries and established procedures. Instructions at this level will be less detailed than those given to a brand-new employee, and your work will be subject to moderate peer review as you build proficiency and confidence. You will be expected to identify problems and issues in straightforward situations and to communicate within your department on matters that involve obtaining or providing information that may require some explanation or interpretation to reach a shared understanding and agreement.

This is not a role where every step will be handed to you. It is a role for someone who is ready to start developing their own technical instincts, ask the right questions, and grow into greater responsibility over time.

Please Note: Some assignments may require international travel, including deployment to remote or potentially hazardous locations overseas. This is not a requirement at the apprentice level but may become part of your role as you advance.

As a Level B, you will work under the general supervision of senior technicians and FSRs. Your training will be progressive, building your knowledge, independence, and confidence over time. You will move from closely guided tasks toward situations where you are expected to apply what you have learned, identify straightforward problems on your own, and communicate effectively with your team to work through solutions.

Learn the fundamentals of electro-optical and electro-mechanical systems, including how sensors, optics, and stabilization components work together. Assist in the repair, testing, and preventative maintenance of Wescam MX Series gimbal turret systems. Develop troubleshooting skills for electronic and mechanical faults, beginning with straightforward problems under general supervision. Learn to use electronic and mechanical test equipment safely and accurately. Gain an understanding of aircraft integration concepts related to the MX product line. Follow established maintenance procedures, work instructions, and safety protocols, and begin identifying when situations fall outside of standard procedures and require escalation.

Essential Functions:

• You do not need years of experience to apply — that is what the apprenticeship is for. However, we are looking for candidates who demonstrate the right attitude, aptitude, and foundation to grow into this role. At the Level B stage, we are specifically looking for individuals who show early signs of independent thinking, clear communication, and the ability to identify and respond to straightforward problems without being prompted at every step. Objective is to become proficient in troubleshooting, repair and servicing of Wescam MX sensor systems within 90 days. Initial MX Training may include formal 2-week training course, followed by extensive on-the-job training requirements.
• 90% travel required.

Qualifications:

• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Some post-secondary education or coursework in electronics, avionics, engineering technology, or a related field. An associate's degree or technical certificate is a plus.
• Any hands-on experience with electronic or mechanical systems, even from hobbies, automotive work, or military service.
• Prior military experience, especially in aviation, intelligence, or technical fields such as AFSOC, Special Operations, DOD, or Airborne Law Enforcement.
• Exposure to test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, or similar tools.
• Basic understanding of electrical or mechanical concepts from school, hobby, or prior work.
• Ability to work under general supervision and follow established procedures within defined boundaries.
• Ability to identify straightforward problems or issues and take appropriate initial action.
• Comfortable receiving moderate peer review of your work and using that feedback to improve. 
• Ability to communicate clearly within a team, including situations that require some explanation or interpretation to reach agreement.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality. Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain an active Secret Security Clearance.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C. area, Denver, or NYC areas is $52,000 - $97,000. The salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, Cleveland Ohio, Vermont and Virginia is $45,000- $84,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
