Job Description:
The Business Development Principal is chartered with growing L3Harris C5ISR system and product presence in Europe. As a seasoned business development leader, you will develop and execute customer and market strategies to enable opportunity identification, qualification and capture for L3Harris’ Communication Systems (CS) segment. This role will support and inform the strategic direction and growth of L3Harris’ C5ISR systems and will work across the L3Harris Enterprise. The successful candidate will be located in one of L3Harris’ European hubs, enabling daily collaboration with colleagues and easy access to several European customers. The role involves influencing senior customer leadership to shape procurement requirements, and aligning internal stakeholders to position the organization for successful opportunity capture.
Additionally, the Business Development Principal will bring, build and maintain strong relationships with customers, industry partners, and internal stakeholders. Advanced management and leadership skills, broad business knowledge, strong financial acumen extensive experience across related disciplines, and relevant technical knowledge are required.
Essential Functions:
- Lead European business development with a focus on integrated C5ISR solutions, turnkey systems, and large scale tactical communication product campaigns
- Identify and qualify new business opportunities, develop and shape requirements, and establish and execute effective pursuit plans while following L3Harris’ business development and capture processes
- Grow the new business opportunity pipeline by conducting market research of industry trends and unmet customer needs, collecting competitive intelligence, and seeding new opportunities with customers through discussions, presentations and whitepapers
- Lead cross-functional teams to define the technical solution and program plan for integrated C5ISR systems and turnkey solutions, while emphasizing high value offerings that optimize value for customers and pull through L3Harris’ world class communication system and electronic warfare products from across the enterprise
- Develop and maintain industrial partnerships across key countries, support offset strategy development and idea generation, and successfully position L3Harris across national industrial ecosystems to capture new business
- Support and participate in engagements with customers and industrial partners to advance business pursuits and capture efforts
- Collaborate closely across multiple functions in a multinational matrixed organization, including sales/account management, program management and capture management, product development, engineering, market communications and other functions
- Work jointly with the Global Business Development team and other segments to develop large scale cross-segment opportunities and other synergies
- Travel within continental Europe up to 50% of the time, with most work with stakeholders based in Europe and the United States.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree with 12 years prior experience mid-to-large multinational defense, aerospace, security or technology organizations, Graduate Degree with 10 years prior experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
- Minimum 8 years of experience working in a customer facing role such as sales/account management, business development, program management and/or engineering/architecture
- Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience in leading new business pursuits and translating customer mission needs to specific program and system requirements, including technical solutions
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with military customers in business development and/or program management roles, e.g., programs on customer sites; as a uniformed officer, civilian contractor, or sales/business development role
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Existing relationships across US and European defense, aerospace and security companies
- International experience working and living in multiple countries with diverse cultures and languages
- Knowledge of additional European language(s)
- Strong track record in identifying, qualifying, shaping, bidding and winning new business
- Strong track record in conducting successful gate reviews to secure discretionary funding and resources in support of pursuits
- Experience working with multiple P&L centers, and ability to determine the optimal P&L center to work with for each specific capability
- Combination of technical, engineering or science background with business experience
- Knowledge of and experience with enterprise architecture, system/software engineering and communication system theories and products
- Experience developing and implementing offset and industrial participation strategies to enhance company positioning and achieving procurement localization requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher with a minimum of 15 years of experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 20 years of prior related experience.
- Full understanding of US and local export laws and regulations (including ITAR) and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA)
- Ability to lead and develop relationships with geographically dispersed people
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
- Executive presence and strong business acumen
