L3Harris, Communication Systems-West (CSW) is seeking a Senior Manager, Software Engineering to manage the Networking and Cryptographic team within the Digital Design and Signal Processing organization.  This individual will manage a large team of individual contributor engineers and sub-managers supporting Networking and Cryptographic technologies with varying experience levels. The role is responsible for guiding technical direction, people leadership, life-cycle execution of complex development efforts from concept through System Integration and Test (SIT).  This role is responsible for coordinating within the department on staffing, forecasting talent management, and collaborating with other engineering organizations to meet business needs.

The diversity of skills in this group requires thorough technical knowledge to make robust staffing decisions and provide meaningful guidance. This team performs implementation of transmitter/receiver algorithms using FPGA/ASIC devices, DSP devices, and other digital devices/processors.

The Senoir Manager, Software Engineering will serve as key technical and organizational leader for the department, partnering closely with System Engineering, Project Engineering, and other Functional Engineering organizations.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordination and management of Networking and Cryptographic projects within the Digital Design and Signal Processing organization.  Aligning department resources to meet organizational commitments and priorities.  Working with other engineering departments to ensure alignment and prioritization.
  • Maintain project awareness and adapt to changing priorities or outcomes, working within Digital Design and Signal Processing organizaion to dynamically adjust as needed.
  • Sit in on design reviews while ensuring technical synergy, competence, efficiency, and completeness.
  • Peform staffing assignments, forecasting, and hiring on behalf of their respective department.
  • Provide employee career development, mentoring, training, and performance reviews.
  • Support bid and proposal efforts on behalf of Digital Design and Signal Processing organization.
  • Initial Point of Contact for other departments to needing support from Network and Cryptographic team.
  • Support Digital Design and Signal Processing organization engineering processes,  guidelines, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with other functional engineering organizations to ensure technical execution aligns with program objectives, mission needs, schedule, budget, and contractual requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership across the full development and test cycle, including concept development, architecture, requirements analysis, design synthesis, integration, verification, validation, and qualification.
  • Support the development of system architectures and technical roadmaps for Electronic Warfare/Electronic Attack systems.
  • Oversee requirements decomposition, allocation, traceability, and verification planning across FPGA & HDL solutions.
  • Ensure development of high-quality technical artifacts including specifications, interface control documents, test plans, procedures, verification cross-reference matrices, and other design artifacts.
  • Support internal and external technical reviews, customer briefings, milestone assessments, and program status reviews as the responsible systems engineering leader.
  • Drive technical risk opportunity identification, mitigation planning, and issue resolution across development and production efforts.
  • Support cross-functional engineering execution among systems, electrical, software, mechanical, test, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams.
  • Support proposal strategy, basis of estimate development, technical volume creation, technical interchange meetings, and customer demonstrations for new business pursuits.
  • Establish and enforce disciplined software and HDL engineering processes, tools, and metrics to ensure technical quality, configuration control, and compliance with company and customer standards.
  • Provide leadership in staffing, mentoring, succession planning, and building a high-performing engineering organization capable of supporting multiple concurrent programs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline) with a minimum of 12 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
  • Active Secret clearance required with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance; ability to access additional classified programs as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of technical leadership, functional leadership, or engineering management experience leading teams on complex defense or aerospace programs.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience developing Networking, Cryptographic, Waveform, or DSP related systems
  • Experience with risk management, earned value or schedule-driven technical execution, and coordination across internal teams.
  • Strong understanding of secure development environments, classified program execution, and the operational discipline required for sensitive technologies.
  • Experience supporting captures, RFIs, RFPs, and new business pursuits, including technical writing, solution shaping, and formal presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for executive leadership, customers, and engineering teams.
  • Working knowledge of tools such as DOORS or equivalent requirements tools, Microsoft Office applications, MS Project, and model-based or document-based systems engineering environments.
  • Thorough development experience with coding languages such as VHDL, C, C++ and Matlab in addition to development of complex multi-FPGA systems.
  • Experience leading or supporting certification of High Assurance Cryptographic devices.
