Job Description:
The Sr. Associate, Systems Engineer will work as part of a team supporting the requirements, design, development, test, and integration of specialized hardware/software systems installed on ground and airborne ISR and communication platforms.
Essential Functions:
- Primary responsibilities (80% of role): Mechanical design and fabrication including equipment racks, shelves, adapter plates, and custom housing for airborne installations. Create 3D CAD models, produce rapid prototypes using 3D printing, perform test fitting, and generate production-ready control drawings in Teamcenter PLM.
- Secondary responsibilities (20% of role): System-level design coordination, interface analysis, requirements allocation, and trade studies to support overall platform integration. Conduct power and thermal analysis to ensure system performance and safety.
- While system engineering/integration skills are required and will be developed on the job, this position emphasizes hands-on mechanical engineering for aircraft modifications.
- Design adapter plates and perform mechanical analysis for airborne platform installations
- Create rack layouts and custom rack designs for equipment integration
- Conduct weight analysis and balance calculations for aircraft installations
- Utilize 3D printing for rapid prototyping and custom component fabrication
- Design mechanical enclosures for avionics and communication systems
- Create and release control drawings in Teamcenter PLM system
- Develop mechanical design proposals for new capabilities on business jet platforms
- Perform power and thermal analysis for installed systems
- Provide mechanical engineering subject matter expertise
- Work with subcontractors and US Government customers
- Collaborate independently and in team environments
- Deliver clear written, oral, and presentation communications
- Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, or similar)
- Familiarity with aircraft structural requirements and installation standards
- Knowledge of aircraft certification processes (FAA/EASA)
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) tools
- Understanding thermal management for avionics installations
- Experience developing, authoring, and implementing system test plans in a team environment
- Experience testing/troubleshooting RF path from equipment onboard aircraft to distant end
- Experience obtaining and maintaining government approvals
- Hands-on experience testing, integrating, and verifying structural hardware and/or equipment.
- Willing and able to travel up to 10%.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Clearance with SCI and Poly.
- Other Duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with two (2) years of experience in Mechanical Design and fabrication and Systems level design.
- Graduate degree with zero (0) to two (2) years of experience in Mechanical Design and fabrication and Systems level design.
- In Lieu of a degree, a minimum of six (6) years of experience in Mechanical Design and fabrication and Systems level design.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Active Top Secret with SCI and Poly.
