About your next challenge as Ground Support Equipment Technician:

The Ground Support EquipmentTechnician is responsible to provide In-Service Support of the CH-147 MHLH Program (Medium Heavy Lift Helicopter) by performing tool control and maintaining Aircraft STE (Support and Test Equipment) in serviceable condition for DND technicians. This position involves all preventive and corrective maintenance on CH-147 Mechanical & Electrical STE light and medium duty fleet vehicles and equipment including, but not limited to: aircraft tow tractor, small cranes, large generators, forklifts, and aviation GSE (Ground Support Equipment).

What will you do:

  • Perform repair work on a variety of gasoline and diesel powered equipment, and non-motorized GSE, air and hydraulic systems, ignition and electrical systems, computerized and electronic ignition systems;
  • Perform daily, quarterly and/or annual inspections of STE in Operational Hangars;
  • Test equipment for conformance to specifications under actual or simulated operating conditions using shop tools and test equipment;
  • Perform with verification and certification of torque wrench and tire pressure gauge;
  • Perform load verification of lifting devices;
  • Record daily maintenance activities on WO using CribMaster software;
  • Liaise with OEM technical support and Boeing Field Service Representative for issues that are beyond technical manuals;
  • Prepare and inspect STE for deployments;
  • Assist with the training of CF personnel to have them trained and accountable during MOB operations, so that those same functions continue efficiently during deployed operations;
  • Perform welding for repairs and fabrication following Health and Safety regulations;
  • Drive vehicle such as tow tractors, tracked cranes, forklift, and company truck.
  • Participate to the 5S + 1 program including sweeping, dusting, snow removing;
  • Contribute to the Continuous Improvement program;
  • Support group projects as assigned by Supervisor;
  • Follow all site Safety and Security Procedures;
  • Perform duties of Tool Crib Attendant during periods of personnel shortages;
  • Carry out duty tech responsibilities when assigned; and
  • Comply with established internal procedures.

Required Skills and Experiences:

  • 2 to 6 years of relevant experience and strong understanding of preventive and corrective maintenance of mechanical equipment;
  • Capable to diagnose cause of mechanical malfunction in GSE, determine the extent of the repairs, inspect used parts to determine cause of failure, and resolve issues;
  • Thorough knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical equipment plus the methods, tools and equipment to perform preventive and corrective maintenance of light to heavy GSE;
  • Able to read and understand technical service manuals and technical drawings;
  • Lift heavy items up to 50 lbs regularly and operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks, forklifts, etc. upon receipt of internal certification;
  • Good verbal & writing skills;
  • Teamwork, Initiative, Customer and Result oriented;
  • Ability to sustain focus on multiple tasks;
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision;
  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week on short notice at times; and
  • Valid Driver’s License required.

Eligibility Criteria (Mandatory):

  • Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program;
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada “Reliability” status and Level 2 (Secret) security clearance;
  • For on-site positions, our location is accessible by public transport.
