Job Summary:
The Manager, Systems Engineering at L3Harris ForceX, is a key role responsible for both tactical execution and strategic leadership within the systems engineering team. This individual will work as a hands-on systems engineer while managing a growing team of Systems Engineers. Mechanical Engineers and Electirical Engineers. Responsibilities include evaluating complex technical issues, developing system designs, performing engineering assessments, and implementing those designs. Additionally, the Manager, Systems Engineering will be responsible for skills gap analysis, recruitment, and building a strategic vision for the systems engineering organization in collaboration with Engineering leaders while ensuring that all staffing demands in the SE, ME and EE disciplines and as well as workload for all associated efforts at ForceX are met with resource supply in a timely manner.
Communicates within and outside of organization to explain and influence changes to policies, practices, or approaches. Makes significant improvements in processes, systems, or products. Establishes short-term operational plans with measurable contribution to function or business area results. Requires management and leadership knowledge in the job area and comprehensive knowledge within professional discipline.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage a growing team of Engineers within the function of Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electirical Engineering by providing daily oversight and support for engineering execution efforts.
- Conduct performance reviews, workforce planning, and career path development for team members.
- Develop and refine the Systems Engineering discipline for ForceX, ensuring alignment with established Engineering policies and processes.
- Incorporate and develop new plans, designs, and systems into ongoing operations and create associated technical documentation and processes.
- Provide engineering evaluations, analysis, and documentation for Trade Studies, Design Reviews, Peer Reviews, and Technical Interchanges.
- Support product development efforts under the guidance of senior engineers and project leadership.
- Elicit highly technical requirements from stakeholders and create and maintain technical baselines.
- Evaluate and determine technical approaches to support decisions for various programs.
- Create reports, documents, and presentations for program and leadership meetings.
- Manage configuration control of interconnected systems including software, hardware, and firmware.
- Ensure compliance with US Government security regulations and requirements on system design or changes and direct/implement those requirements.
- Travel to customer locations without supervision and provide onsite ISR mission system level support for US Government and DOD Prime contractors to ensure system performance and mission success.
- Work with suppliers to determine technical capabilities, delivery schedules, and associated costs.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong systems engineering background with experience in leading and collaborating with diverse teams to accomplish whole system solutions or changes.
- An ability to review and analyze high-level technical needs and refine them into an integrated set of HW, SW and SYS requirements.
- Comprehensive understanding of system changes and configuration management.
- Proficient communicator to all skill sets and levels of the organization, able to respond effectively to changing situations, and able to prioritize, status, and work multiple tasks.
- Comprehensive understanding of the impacts of US Government Information Assurance and FAA regulations on system design and changes.
- Ability to hold and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
Required Skills, Experience, and Education:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Systems, Mechanical, Electrical or Software Engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 9 years prior related experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- Requires management and leadership knowledge in job area.
- Experience with the application of systems engineering tools for requirements management, risk management, and systems decommissioning and disposal activities.
- Experience working with project planning, requirement management, and scheduling.
- Demonstrated experience and/or training in the integration of requirements, design, and technology during the design and development of complex systems.
- Demonstrated experience and/or training in product development and associated development life cycle.
Preferred Skills, Experience, and Education:
- Primary point of contact for all Systems Engineering matters.
- Oversee subcontractors including their engineering planning, approvals, performance monitoring, and engineering risks.
- Understanding of physical architectures incorporating voice, video, and data capability across multiple security domains.
- Review and evaluate electrical wiring diagrams to ensure design details trace to system requirements.
- Understanding of test, integration, verification, and validation planning.
- Write effective verification test procedures ensuring system performance and capabilities meet system requirements.
- Translate the voice of the customer into system-level requirements.
- Perform requirement traceability.
- Develop and evaluate trade studies for accuracy and completeness.
- Write subsystem specifications based on system-level requirements.
- Evaluate alternative solutions and establish preliminary system designs.
- Review and evaluate diagrams to ensure design details trace to system requirements.
- Prepare effective presentations to communicate technical information to non-technical professionals.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to travel up to 25%, with the possibility of OCONUS travel for program support.
- Ability to independently lift 25 lbs.

- As required by program needs.
Work Environment:
- Work performed in an office environment, customer facility, System Integration Laboratory (SIL), ground vehicles, secure facilities with/without environmental control.
