Job Description:
The Senior Manager, Supply Chain Management (Material Planning) provides strategic leadership and oversight for the Materials Planning function within the broader Supply Chain organization, supporting multiple manufacturing facilities across a division or sector. This role is accountable for developing and executing standardized material planning processes that ensure material availability, optimize inventory investment, support production requirements, and enable on-time delivery of contractual commitments.
They are responsible for ensuring the effective utilization and integrity of the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system across supported sites. This includes establishing planning standards, maintaining appropriate planning parameters, driving disciplined execution of MRP outputs and action messages, and ensuring material requirements accurately support production schedules and customer delivery commitments.
This position works closely with Demand Planning, Production Planning & Control, Procurement, Inventory Management, Operations, Program Management, Engineering, Quality, and other cross-functional stakeholders to identify and mitigate material risks, improve planning accuracy, optimize working capital, and ensure alignment between material requirements, production schedules, and contractual delivery dates.
Also serves as a key escalation point for material-related risks and is responsible for developing the Material Planning organization through standardized processes, performance management, talent development, and continuous improvement.
Essential Functions:
·Provide strategic leadership for Materials Planning across multiple sites, ensuring alignment with enterprise Supply Chain, Operations, and business objectives.
·Establish, implement, and continuously improve standardized Materials Planning processes, system disciplines, and best practices.
·Lead and develop the Materials Planning organization, driving performance management, talent development, succession planning, and a high‑accountability culture.
·Ensure robust planning master data, disciplined MRP utilization, and accurate material requirements through effective ERP/MRP governance.
·Oversee end‑to‑end material requirements planning, including requisition creation, shortage management, supplier issue resolution, and alignment to production schedules.
·Partner cross‑functionally with Production Control, Procurement, Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Program Management to resolve material risks and maintain schedule and contractual commitments.
·Serve as a senior escalation point for critical material issues impacting production, customer deliveries, or program milestones.
·Manage and analyze key performance indicators, inventory health, demand changes, and material positions to optimize working capital and drive proactive risk mitigation.
·Lead continuous improvement, data‑driven decision-making, SIOP participation, and business transformation initiatives to strengthen planning accuracy, system performance, and cross-functional execution.
·25-33% travel to support division oversight.
·Must be able to obtain a US security clearance.
Qualifications:
·Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 12 years of prior related experience; Graduate Degree with a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
·Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in Materials Planning, Supply Chain Planning, Production Planning, Inventory Management, Procurement, or a related Supply Chain discipline.
·Demonstrated experience leading teams and managing material planning activities within a complex manufacturing environment.
·In-depth knowledge of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) principles and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems; SAP experience is a plus.
·Strong understanding of material planning, inventory management, production planning, procurement, and manufacturing operations.
·Demonstrated analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable corrective actions.
·Strong organizational and time-management skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
·Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to analyze and interpret large datasets; experience with data visualization and business intelligence tools is a plus.
·Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, including senior leadership.
·Demonstrated ability to influence and drive results across functions without direct reporting authority.
Preferred Additional Skills:
·Strong knowledge of Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) processes and their relationship to material and production planning.
·Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
·Knowledge of defense program planning, government contracting, and program execution is highly desired.
·Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
·Six Sigma, Lean, or APICS certification; Certified in Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM) certification is highly desired.
·Demonstrated experience leading Materials Planning organizations across multiple manufacturing sites or business units.
·Experience developing and implementing standardized planning processes, procedures, metrics, and governance across an organization.
·Strong leadership capabilities with demonstrated ability to communicate, influence, and lead across multiple organizational levels, functions, sites, and business units.
·Demonstrated ability to serve as a change leader and drive organizational transformation while maintaining a high level of employee engagement.
I In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $120,500-223,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
