As a subsidiary of L3Harris Technologies and within the Integrated Mission Systems Segment, the WESCAM division develops the most advanced optical sensor and targeting systems for global defense and military sectors, National Security, Search & Rescue and Airborne law enforcement agencies. About the Role
Our products are only valuable to our customers if they are reliable and safe. That is where you come in. You will be working as part of a Supportability Team, focusing on a variety of Reliability and Safety Engineering tasks and initiatives. This role requires someone with a can-do attitude, strong technical background, and eagerness to learn new things.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform data analysis to quantify the reliability of our fielded products
- Assist in developing predictive maintenance policies using telemetry data
- Influence the reliability of products in the design phase (ex: DFMEA)
- Communicate results of analyses, findings, and studies in thorough written reports and presentations
- Work in conjunction with Systems Engineering to review requirements pertaining to reliability, availability, maintainability and safety (RAMS)
- Review vendor supportability documentation and challenge supplier analyses
- Participate in NPI and Program design reviews
- Perform or assist with the following analysis activities as part of the overall project verification and validation program:
- Reliability prediction (MTBF)
- Failure modes, effects, and criticality analysis (FMECA)
- Fault tree analysis (FTA)
- Hazard analysis
- Testability analysis
- Maintainability prediction
- Support design assurance analysis for hardware, software and firmware designs for airborne, ground and maritime platforms
- Support the Product Safety Management Process by participation in Safety Committee meetings
- Support reliability test development including HALT and HASS
- Work closely with ILS to help develop maintenance/support strategy, increase system availability and minimize life cycle cost
- Work with programs/customers to analyze usage/failure data from fielded Wescam systems/products to identify trends and refurbishment recommendations
Required Capabilities
- Motivated self-starter who seeks out opportunities to collaborate with others
- A curiosity in how things work and break; so that they may be improved
- Analytical thinker with the ability to extract meaningful data from various sources
- Working knowledge of MIL-STDs, MIL-HDBKs and DEF STANs related to RAMS (e.g. MIL-STD-882, DEF STAN 00-56, MIL-HDBK-217, etc) would be an asset
- Background in programming (especially Python), and probability and statistics is an asset
- Familiarity with electrical/electronic circuit analysis
- Familiarity with electro-mechanical motion control equipment
- Familiarity with electro-optic imaging equipment
- Familiarity with ANSI and FDA standards related to laser classification and safety
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a meticulous attention to detail
- Working knowledge of the following software tools: PTC Windchill, Python, MatLab, Jira/Confluence and MS Office Suite
- Meets the requirements of the Controlled Goods Registration Program and is eligible for a Canadian government security clearance
Desired Education and Experiences
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent
- Strong interest in reliability and/or product safety; preferably in the aerospace and/or defence industry; demonstrated experience in this area would be a benefit
- 2-5 years’ demonstrated experience in this area would be a benefit
- Experience with Integrated Systems on Airborne, Ground and Marine platforms
