Job Description:
L3Harris in San Diego, CA is seeking an experienced Power Supply Design Engineer with a solid understanding of analog circuit design with emphasis on DC-DC Switched Mode power supply design and development. This requirement includes Fly back and Feed forward DC-DC converter design capabilities with low (<10W) and high (<200W) DC input power requirements.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for all aspects of detailed design and development of Power Supplies for RF and microwave assemblies. This includes system power distribution and module level design and definition, schematic capture, circuit design, derating, and Worst-Case Analysis (WCA).
- Define EMI/EMC requirements and implement methods to meet product requirements
- Prepare and present engineering design concepts and data results for IDR/PDR/CDR
- Estimate task schedules and budgets (BOEs) for programs, proposals, and IR&D efforts
- Support internal peer design reviews, design verification testing of engineering unit and oversight of design through production
Qualifications:
- Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent required and at least 9 years of Power Supply design experience. Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with at least 7 years of Power Supply experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- 4+ years of development of isolated and non-isolated Buck, Boost, Forward, Flyback, half Bridge or Full Bridge Converters
- Experience troubleshooting subassemblies to the component level
- Experience independently developing test procedures and conducting design verification testing. Test experience to include temperature, inrush, load and line variation, and pulse loading for stability.
- Experience with bench level test equipment is required
- Experience/expertise with design and test for EMI (Electromagnetic Interface)
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience within the aerospace industry
- Familiarity with transmitter and receiver architecture and design
- Simulation experience with some of these tools: PSPICE, INTERSIL ISIN, LTSPICE, OrCAD, PADs
- Understanding of EMI/EMC requirements and implementation methods to meet product requirements
- Experience with the challenges associated with designing space qualified hardware and an understanding of analog and IC circuit design are preferred.
- Ability to complete design/project goals with little to no technical supervision
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $122,500.00 - $227,500.00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
