Job Description:
L3Harris is looking for a Manufacturing Quality Engineer to join our Piezo Ceramics and Acoustics Team in Salt Lake City, Utah. The ideal candidate will be an experienced Quality Engineering professional, with a practical knowledge of Quality Assurance principles who can manage multifaceted projects or processes with general supervision. This position may have direct reports with supervision of an Inspection Team.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and implement robust quality plans and processes.
- Identify and drive Continuous Improvement (CIP) with Corrective/Preventative Actions.
- Contract review and flow down of requirements to the supply chain and functional groups.
- Interface and collaborate with Supply Quality Engineering to manage supplier technical requirements.
- Review and approve engineering specifications such as ATPs, drawings, models, manufacturing work instructions for adequacy, quality, and compliance to specification and contractual requirements.
- Ensure that performance and quality products conform to established corporate and regulatory standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings with proficiency and working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5 GD&T).
- Review, analyze, and report on quality discrepancies and trends related to assembly, process, mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical systems.
- Interface with engineering, manufacturing, customer, vendors, subcontractor representatives and stakeholders to evaluate and resolve product issues.
- Actively participate on Material Review Boards and Failure Review Boards, which includes disposition of non-conforming products, identifying containment requirements, and identifying appropriate root cause and corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to both internal and external customers.
- Communicates within and outside of own function to gain cooperation on operational processes, practices, and procedures.
- Interface and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with personnel at all technical levels and with management.
- Develop and conduct functional and business-related risk assessments.
- Track and report Business Quality Metrics to upper management.
- Perform trend analysis to identify out of control conditions through Pareto analysis and Lead RCCA and 8D activities.
- Zero Defect Planning and develop control or inspection plans with KQI’s.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- An analytical thinker that can apply his / her knowledge of manufacturing to strategize, create and implement effective quality solutions to complex issues and investigate to make sound decisions based on facts and data.
- Thorough understanding of the requirements of AS9100 / ISO 9001 and the ability to conduct audits.
- Knowledge and application of Lean or Six Sigma (Preference is Certified Green / Black Belt).
- Current or previous DoD Security Clearance.
- APQP - Advanced Product Quality Planning, SPC - Statistical Process Control, FMEA - Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Risk Mitigation, Control and Inspection Plans.
- Computer proficiency (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Minitab, SAP).
- Experience in a heavily regulated industry is required (Automotive, Aerospace, Space, Defense or Medical Industry experience is preferred).
- Implementation and oversight of First Article Inspection (FAI) Process.
