Job Description:
This is a hands-on position primarily involving hot-fire testing of rocket engines. The instrumentation technician performs the electrical side rocket engine hot-fire tests, working with a small team including a mechanical technician and a test engineer.
Test preparation includes: installing sensors, setting up wiring and cabling, selecting and preparing electronic equipment, verifying control and data signal paths, and setting up the software and parameter calibration data of the computerized data acquisition and control systems.
Testing involves: operating the test control and data acquisition computers to fire the required test sequences and record data, monitoring the live data, interacting with the mechanic and test engineer as they perform their tasks.
Other responsibilities include: Documenting events, record keeping, calibrating equipment, and electronic fabrication, maintenance, and repair.
Essential Functions:
- Read, understand, and comply with written work instructions.
- Select sensors and electronic equipment to comply with the requirements of the work instruction document.
- Configure software menus for calibration scale factors, filtering, sample rates, etc.
- Use knowledge of measurement sensors such as pressure, flow, temperature, etc. to troubleshoot complex data measurement systems from source to recording device.
- Light electronics repair including: stripping wire, soldering, crimping, pinning and de-pinning connectors.
- Calibrate sensors such as pressure transducers.
- Perform rocket engine hot fire tests in accordance with documented specifications and requirements.
- Obtain a Respirator clearance up to and including the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Level A clearance.
Qualifications:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree (instrumentation, electronics, or control and data acquisition) with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skils:
- Military experience in electronics or avionics.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and be highly competent working with computers, controllers and running software programs.
- Experience working around hazardous materials or environments. This role requires participation in our Emergency Response Team and respirator certification.
- Ability to perform fine hand work involving good visual acuity, dexterity, hand eye coordination.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $23.38/hr - $43.51/hr. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
