The Maintenance Trades Helper will be responsible for assisting one or more workers in the skilled maintenance trades by performing specific or general duties of lesser skill such as: keeping a worker supplied with materials and tools, cleaning working area, machine, and equipment; assisting journeyman by holding materials or tools; and performing other unskilled tasks as directed by journeyman.
Essential Functions:
- Perform maintenance and handling on submarine vertical launch system (VLS) equipment and components.
- The kind of work the helper is permitted to perform varies from trade to trade. In some trades the helper is confined to supplying, lifting, and holding materials and tools, and cleaning working areas and in others, the worker is permitted to perform specialized machine operations, or parts of a trade that are also performed by workers on a full-time basis.
- Performs work in one or more of the maintenance trades: carpentry, grinding, sanding, painting, machine and equipment repair, electrical, sheet metal fabrication, and welder support. Other duties maybe assigned.
- Shipboard. Should be physically able to move through a ship, shipyard and dry-dock, climbing ladders, and staging, capable of lifting and carrying components up to fifty pounds on submarines and surface ships. Respirator qualification will be required.
- Comprehend and perform detailed written maintenance procedures under direct supervision.
- Will be Driving company vehicles and towing trailers.
- Able to obtain and maintain a DoD Clearance.
- Able to obtain and maintain a Naval Station clearance without an escort.
Qualifications:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and zero (0) to three (3) years of maintenance trades helper experience.
- Clean and valid driver license is required at the time of hire.
- Must be able to obtain medical clearance for respirator use.
- Must be a US Citizen.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Previous forklift operator experience.
