L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Multi-Disciplinary (MD) Engineering Manager for the Communications Systems (CS) segment’s Brevard Engineering operations. The role will report directly to the CS Brevard Senior Engineering Manager for the Systems Engineering (SE) and Project Engineering (PE) department.
The Engineering Manager for the multi-disciplinary (Advanced Concept, Network Planning, Information Security and System Admin engineering) will be responsible for managing a team of up to twenty engineers, ensuring the successful application of engineering policies, and leading the hiring and staffing needs set by the Sr. Engineering Manager.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in systems, project, working with business development, networking concepts, information security understanding to guide engineering process understanding in the defense industry, with a strong background in managing diverse teams, able to manage a team of multidisciplinary engineers, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and provide technical guidance and support to various programs.
Essential Functions:
- Lead and directs experienced professionals, lower-level supervisors, or associated managers
- Communicate within and outside of organization to explain and influence changes to policies, practices, or approaches.
- Make significant improvements in processes, systems, or products
- Establishe short-term operational plans with measurable contribution to function or business area results
- Possess management and leadership knowledge in job area and comprehensive knowledge within professional discipline
- Execute workforce and staffing plans set by the Sr EM for the department to ensure availability of human capital necessary to accomplish departmental business results
- Owns hiring and compensation authority within own department, in accordance with senior management review and approval
- Manage staffing performance issues beginning with verbal warnings and moving to including Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) under review of Sr EM and Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP)
- Mentors and develops engineering staff, leading application of best practices, fostering a proactive attitude, encouraging innovation, and reinforcing contributions and commitment in line with L3Harris’ corporate values
- Maintains proper staffing levels and expertise to meet business objectives through the effective planning and execution of projects, pursuits, and programs. This includes supporting all recruitment activities and meeting key metrics set by leadership
- Promotes application of standards and best practices, and process adherence; defines, evolves, and tailors processes as needed for new requirements
- Collaborate with Sr. Engineering Manager to develop and/or manages budgets for functions or departments including operating requirements and equipment and material purchases. Meets engineering organization Annual Operating Plan (AOP) budget
- Travel up to 10%
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active DoD Secret Clearance
- Technical degree in Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Engineering (or related STEM discipline)
- 3+ years' experience in managing high performance engineering teams
- 5+ years systems experience in the system engineering development of secure military communications systems
- 5+ years' experience with system engineering development of complex communications systems in a multi-disciplinary environment
- 5+ years' experience with allocation of system requirements to design, development, and test requirements
- System Integration and Test (SI&T) engineering experience, including development of test strategies, plans, procedures, and reports; integration and test conduct; and use of data collection and analysis tools
- Experience with DOORS, JIRA, or MBSE
- Experience with test automation development and frameworks
- Effective communication skills in a collaborative team environment
- Excellent organizational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office® applications to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio
