Job Description:
Responsible for the design, layout, testing and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices or systems. Prepares design specifications, analysis and recommendations for presentation and approval. Analyzes mechanical requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints. Work with manual and semi-automated tooling such as jigs, fixtures, molds, mandrels, and lifting devices in the fabrication and assembly of solid fuel rocket motors.
Essential Functions:
- Works under moderate supervision to set objectives for own job area.
- Communicates with contacts inside and outside own team to explain and interpret operational processes, practices, and procedures.
- Identifies and addresses changes within own job area.
- Works to achieve operational targets with some impact on departmental results.
- Work with PTC Creo and Windchill.
- Conduct design reviews with cross functional teams to obtain approval of tool designs.
- Oversee procurement/fabrication of tooling.
- Work with manufacturing engineers to perform functional evaluations and acceptance of tooling design.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Less than 5% travel required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related mechanical experience.
- Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related mechanical experience.
- In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related mechanical experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience with solid modeling programs such as Unigraphics NX, Pro-Engineer, AutoCAD Inventor, CATIA, CREO or Solid Works preferred.
- Fabrication experience is a plus.
