Job Description:
This Digital Signal Processing Engineer (DSP) is responsible for planning, research & development, and execution of engineering development tasking on projects, pursuits, and programs to design and development sonar acoustics and other underwater communications capabilities. This position will communicate directly with internal and external stakeholders, customers and vendors. This position also provides the opportunity to help shape business strategy for future acoustic communications pursuits.
Essential Functions:
- Key contributor to Electrical Engineering development efforts, managing technical scope, and delivering to technical, cost, and schedule objectives
- Reinforce the existing EE team in development of active and passive sonar systems, tasking to include: digital signal processing (DSP) architecture design; development of software/MATLAB solutions for sonar performance predictions and improvements; beamforming and sonar signal conditioning.
- Support to hardware, software, and system integration activities for maritime applications.
- Responsible for providing input to program bids and generating bases of estimate.
- Responsible for deriving engineering specifications from system requirements and developing detailed architectures
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering or comparable discipline with a minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience; or Graduate Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience is required.
- Advanced understanding of signal processing theory and techniques required
- Experience in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) architecture design and sonar acoustics.
- Ability to obtain security clearance at the DoD Secret level which requires U.S. Citizenship.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience with advanced signal processing concepts.
- Experience with underwater acoustics applications.
- Knowledge of active and passive sonar systems.
- Professional Knowledge: Advanced level of technical engineering skill/knowledge and the ability to keep up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise
- Proven capability to solve technical problems while meeting the need of the customer.
- Experience working in a matrix environment; getting things done through others
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Works well with management, peers and direct reports
- Proficient in technical writing to include specifications, technical proposals and white papers, design reviews and technical presentations.
