Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking an experienced Hardware Manager to join our Engineering team at L3Harris in our Commercial Aviation Solutions sector.
The Hardware Engineering Manager will lead a team of electrical, mechanical, display and specialty engineers in the development of advanced display, navigation, and satcom systems for a variety of airborne applications. This role requires a dynamic leader with a strong background in electrical, mechanical, and display engineering to drive innovation, ensure the delivery of high-quality, reliable products, and work collaboratively with other product lines to maintain consistent processes across the organization.
Essential Functions:
- Lead and manage a multidisciplinary hardware engineering team responsible for the design, development, and implementation of display, navigation, and satcom systems.
- Oversee the full hardware development lifecycle, ensuring that all projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Collaborate with product management, software engineering, systems engineering, and other stakeholders to define product requirements and roadmaps.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, processes, and tools to enhance productivity and product quality.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards, including RTCA/DO-254, DO-160, MIL-STD-810 and others relevant to qualification of commercial and military systems.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Manage resource allocation, project scheduling, and budgeting for the hardware engineering department.
- Act as the hardware technical liaison with customers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies when required.
- Support business development efforts by contributing technical expertise to proposals and customer presentations.
- Work with other product lines to ensure consistent processes, including DMS health status reporting, design and development processes, and tool usage, to improve efficiency and standardization across the organization.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure obsolescence considerations are integrated into new product development processes.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and other relevant departments to implement design modifications or source alternative components to mitigate the impact of obsolescence on our products.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 9 years of experience in hardware engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Experience with product lifecycle management, from concept through production and support.
- Knowledge of relevant compliance and regulatory standards including RTCA/DO-160, 254.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and inspire a team of engineers.
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical engineering, mechanical packaging and engineering principles applicable to airborne products
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Master’s degree
- Experience with certification processes for commercial aviation systems.
- Familiarity with the design and development of display, navigation, and satcom systems.
