Job Description:
L3Harris is looking for a driven mechanical engineer to perform process design, development, and qualification/testing tasks on complex mechanical hardware including precision mechanisms and electro-mechanical hardware, in a program team environment. Candidate is expected to own larger aspects of the system and be flexible with tasking as the program evolves. Program support and technical leadership over requirements definition, concept generation, material selection, trade studies, design sensitivity/optimization studies, preliminary and final design, design documentation, and assembly/integration and testing may be required.
Candidate should have experience in 3D modeling, critical HW design and development and the ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplined team environment. Candidate will be working within a lab environment and be hands-on with hardware.
Essential Functions:
- Work with limited supervision in a variety of high consequence program activities
- Potential to present to internal and external stakeholders, including customer representatives
- Generation of Technical Data Package components (Part and Assembly drawings, etc.)
- Prototype, Integrate, and Test component parts and assemblies
- Develop test plans and procedures for mechanical subsystems
- Perform test and evaluation of component parts and systems
- Participate in peer reviews, PDRs, CDRs, and other required design reviews
- Participate in product change review meetings and discussions and implement changes
- Participate in interdisciplinary design teams and reviews
- Adhere to company processes for product development, configuration management, purchasing, etc.
- Direct Designers/ Technicians/Operators as part of a design team
- Support field testing/demonstration efforts as an ME field representative
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
- Experience presenting technical concepts to leadership teams
- Active Top Secret or Top Secret/SCI clearance is required (Active within the last two years will be considered)
- Prior or current experience with design of precision mechanisms or mechatronic systems
- Experience using CAD tools
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Active Top Secret/SCI with Poly
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as Creo and understanding of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standards
- Experience in additive manufacturing, part optimization, and design for manufacture and assembly a plus
- Experience with any of the following: actuators, custom gear trains, electro-optical systems, materials testing, and manufacturing processes
