Job Description:
We are seeking a Sr. Specialist, Manufacturing Engineer- supporting Propellant Processing manufacturing team located in Camden, AR.
Performs a variety of duties in the mechanical and chemistry areas of the propellant analysis and formulation. Constructs, troubleshoots, adjusts, tests, diagnoses, and maintains propellant and explosive formulations, mix sheets and technical parameters for the manufacture of energetics systems. Works from specifications, operating manuals, engineering drawings and written material test plans and technical data. Works with complex test instrumentation and computer systems. Operates related test instrumentation, conducts routine and complex testing, and reports data in prescribed format.
Essential Functions:
- Assess, define and engineer handling, processing, and mixing of chemicals in a manufacturing setting.
- Understands and has experiences with results from lab instrumentation such as FTIR, Instrons, DSC, Microtrac, titrators, & HPLC.
- Determines plans for sampling and testing raw materials, propellants, and explosives.
- Evaluates and interprets raw test data.
- Performing mathematical calculations.
- Understanding of laboratory and chemical operations in manufacturing that include cleaning, assemble and dismantle of manufacturing hardware, equipment, and apparatus.
- Perform manufacturing support work such as instrument troubleshooting, effectiveness, parameters setting, inspections, and material handling.
- Evaluate and interpret test reports, saved test data, and report test data.
- Review and submit manufacturing documentation for changes including test and calibration procedures.
- Practical or theoretical knowledge of a chemical and explosive operations in manufacturing setting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior manufacturing engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior manufacturing engineering experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior manufacturing engineering experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering or related is preferred.
- Knowledge of testing explosives and energetic materials a plus.
- Knowledge of chemical or propellant processing.
- Communicates with contacts within and outside of own department.
- May occasionally have responsibility for communicating with parties external to the organization (e.g., customers, vendors, etc.).
- Explains and interprets processes and procedures to others within and outside the job area.
- May work to justify and gain cooperation regarding processes, practices and procedures.
