Engineering Technician

About the opportunity:

Located in Pinkenba, the L3Harris Integration and Sustainment Centre is a multi-faceted maintenance support entity that provides the L3Harris Communications Australia programs with through-life maintenance support. As a member of the Maintenance Team within this facility, this role is responsible for troubleshooting, problem-solving, and repair of Satellite Communication (SATCOM) systems, including Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSAT) and other commercial SATCOM products. Equipment is returned to the user in a timely manner in a serviceable condition. This role plays a vital part in sustaining mission-critical SATCOM systems that ensure seamless communication for national defence operations.

Responsibilities of the role include the following:

  • Perform efficient and effective product diagnostics, repairs and testing, including RF, digital, and analogue circuits and networked devices, ensuring timely fault resolution to achieve the programs KPI’s. 
  • Accurately capture and record data related to faults, diagnostic findings, solutions, and part consumption in ERP systems. 
  • Provide feedback to management, engineers, and peers regarding diagnostics, processes, and tools. 
  • Assist and coach peers to strengthen team capabilities and knowledge-sharing practices, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning. 
  • Maintain quality standards through adherence to best practices, established processes, and relevant quality certifications. 
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation and security protocols in all work practices, proactively identifying potential risks and addressing them. 
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance maintenance efficiency, reduce equipment downtime, and improve service delivery. 
  • Provide direct customer support for product diagnostics as required, including potential site visits. 

Skills and Qualifications:

Essential

  • Minimum Certificate III in applicable Technical Trade.
  • Proven experience and proficiency in:
    • Satellite Communications: Installing, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of associated systems.
    • RF, digital, and analogue circuit diagnostics to module level.
    • Understand, operate & use RF and electronic test equipment, including spectrum analysers, signal generators, power meters, oscilloscopes, multi-meters, cable & antenna testing equipment.
    • Reading and interpreting technical information, engineering drawings, and schematics.
    • Conducting technical analysis and effectively communicating findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Understanding of network, serial, and application layer communication protocols such as TCP/IP, Subnetting, RS-232, and SSH.

Desirable

  • Diploma or higher relatable technical qualification with extensive experience.
  • IPC Soldering Certification.
  • Open Cablers Licence.
  • Completion of the iDirect Government Remote Operators Commissioning Course (iROCC).
