Job Summary:
The role of Scrum Master is a Servant Leader at L3 Harris. The Servant Leader is focused on team functionality. The Scrum Master is responsible for monitoring the Scrum/Agile processes to increase team efficiency by motivating and facilitating the scrum team to self-organization, higher quality, team ownership and driving the team to meet their deliverables. The role of Senior Scrum Master is a professional and subject matter expert with comprehensive job area knowledge and in-depth knowledge of project management, managing large and complex projects and processes with minimal direction or oversight to achieve operational targets and goals with significant improvements on business or functional results.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Strong understanding of agile values and principles and can guide and coach teams, and the organization.
- Guiding and coaching delivery teams to self-organize and achieve objectives, without assigning or dictating the work
- Mobilizing new teams to agile practices and values
- Facilitating all agile ceremonies efficiently to help team realize the value of the meetings to performance outcomes
- Facilitating discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution
- Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised and resolved
- Working effectively with management and team members to clarify needs and plan delivery of major product changes, future versions and new products
- Working to proactively manage risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies, ensuring that they are identified, coordinated, mitigated or escalated as necessary
- Working with Product Owner and Development Team to facilitate effective sprints by removing impediments and ensuring that stories are ‘sprint ready’
- Demonstrating servant-leadership while guiding the team to improve their processes all while challenging them to innovate and experiment
- Helping foster an environment that empowers and energizes team members, with a focus on accountability, adaptability, and collaboration
- Facilitate Agile Scrum stand-up meetings, retrospectives, sprints, release planning and delivery of artifacts for the Scrum process for multiple teams
- Develop and report process metrics for real-time or historical presentation
- Administer and maintain systems used for Project Lifecycle Management
- Maintain current knowledge and keep updated on new relevant technology
- Provide support and lead special projects as needed
- Evaluating a team’s agile maturity using tools provided and successfully implementing action plans for improving agile maturity
Required Skills, Experience and Education:
- Ability to obtain a US security clearance required
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years minimum prior related experience as a practicing Scrum Master in a technology and/or software development environment, or equivalent of education and related experience
- Strong knowledge of agile methodologies, values, and procedures
- Proven leadership skills that motivate scrum teams to perform at their best
- Proven success in baselining programs to match changes in scope
- Strong knowledge and proven experience with facilitation techniques, servant leadership, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency
- Experience with agile PLM tools like JIRA, Rally, VersionOne (or other)
- Strong understanding of backlog tracking, Scrum and Kanban based metrics, task definition, and story splitting
- Excellent communication and mentoring skills
- Experience in sprint & release planning, running demos and retrospectives.
- Demonstrate sound judgment and strong reasoning skills as well as good analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to travel up to 20%
Preferred Skills, Experience and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Computer Science, Education, or Graduate Degree with minimum of 6 years of prior related experience, 5 years as a practicing Scrum Master
- Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
- In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent certifications
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to utilize multiple desktop publishing and still-image editing programs
- Highly proficient written/verbal communication and presentation skills
- Highly proficient grammatical skills
- Ability to prioritize and organize tasks and assignments
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Duties may require being on call periodically and working outside of normal working hours (evenings, weekends, and holidays)
- Work performed in an office environment
