Job Description:
L3Harris Technologies is seeking an experienced, dynamic software leader to join our Surveillance & Automation Solutions Team. This position will lead a team of 10-20 software engineers in building, operating, and maintaining software and ground infrastructure that delivers critical and essential information to air traffic controllers and pilots. The Software Manager will also be responsible for architecting, implementing, and overseeing digital engineering transformation for the software organization, advancing software maturity objectives, ensuring compliance with development policies, providing technical and cost inputs for proposals, and hiring and evaluating staff.
This dual leadership and individual contributor role will provide direction and oversight to members of the software team in designing, developing, and testing operational and non-operational updates to surveillance applications and infrastructure and will also be responsible for owning aspects of backend design and development. Additional duties include:
- Agile software planning and development
- Implementation & use of DevOps tools including Jira, Bitbucket, Jenkins, and Confluence
- Collaboration with Systems and Integration & Test to ensure design and implementation meet customer requirements
- Developing software documentation/CDRLs (SDP, SRS, SDD, SVD, SVT, etc.) and software review packages (SRR, SDR, PDR, CDR, etc.)
- Developing and reviewing software basis of estimates and technical/ cost volumes in support of pursuits and proposals
- Collaborating with senior leadership to develop and/or manages budgets for the software function
- Promoting application of standards, best practices, and process adherence
- Defining, evolving, and tailoring processes as needed to make improvements in processes, systems, or products
- Establishing short-term operational plans with measurable contribution to function or business area
- Staffing and workforce planning; effective planning and execution of projects, pursuits, and programs
- Managing performance or disciplinary concerns in accordance with company policy
- Communicating within and outside of organization to influence execution strategy and/or changes to policies, practices, or approaches
- New Employee Onboarding including IT requests, check-ins, and logistics for new hires
- Ability to obtain Public Trust Suitability
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or similiar degree with a minimum of 12 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree with 10 years of prior related experience. In Lieu of degree, 16 years with software leadership experience.
- 9+ years of ATCA (Air Traffic Control Association), FAA (Federal Aviation Association) systems, or NAS (National Airspace System) air traffic management industry experience.
- 9+ years demonstrated experience as a software developer with leadership experience, overseeing large-scale low-latency, high-availability services.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Understanding of the System of Systems National Airspace System (NAS) architecture and its relation to the NAS functional and performance requirements
- Prior work experience on a FAA NAS Program during the System Implementation phase of the AMS lifecycle and successful deployment/integration into the NAS
- Experience with development of solutions into mixed on-premises and Cloud environments
- Experience structuring and guiding mid- to upper-TRL research and development
- Experience/participation in FAA Collaborative Decision Making forums and NextGen Advisory Committee/Sub-committees/Integrated Working Groups
- Membership and/or participation in ATCA, ICNS or other ANSP-related organizations
