Job Description:
The Specialist, Systems Engineer (SE) aids in technical planning, system integration, verification and validation. The Specialist SE is part of a team that supports the requirements, design, development, test, and integration of complex, specialized hardware/software systems installed on ground and airborne communication platforms.
Essential Functions:
- Understand physical architectures incorporating voice, video, and data capability across multiple security domains
- Review and evaluate electrical wiring diagrams to ensure design details trace to system requirements
- Design and develop physical and logical architectures incorporating voice, video, and data capability across multiple security domains
- Designs and maintains networks (both LAN & WAN) connecting airborne and ground systems via terrestrial and BLOS (Beyond Line of Sight) circuits
- Translate the voice of the customer into system level requirements
- Write effective verification test procedures ensuring system performance and capabilities meet system requirements
- Write system level requirements
- Perform requirement traceability
- Perform other duties as assigned
Job Qualification Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
- An active DoD Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret (SCI) security clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Experience with testing, integrating, and verifying software and/or hardware
- Communication system integration and communications test support
- Configuration and integration of radio sets, satellite communications systems, or cryptographic equipment
- Networking experience including IP addressing, switching and routing, video teleconferencing, VoIP telephony, and WANs
- Experience in routing protocols including EGIRP, OSPF, and BGP
- Configuration and integration of routers, switches, and video teleconferencing equipment
- Requires knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
- Broad knowledge of project management.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Aircraft communication system integration and communications ground/flight test support
- Understanding of Networking and Scripting
- RF distribution systems including RF down-converting, up-converting, transceivers, non-blocking switching, and electrically phase matched distribution architectures
- Experience in Linux based systems
- Experience with VMware and/or Kubernetes deployment/administration
- Experience with SATCOM solutions/protocols
- Experience with HAIPE devices is also a plus
- Experience with Asterisk
- Experience with POTS
- Model-based Systems Engineering and Simulation experience
- Troubleshooting and multi-level testing for RF applications
- Knowledge of requirement traceability methods and purpose
- Experience conducting verification testing
- Excellent written, oral communications skills
