Senior Sales Engineer

The Opportunity:

As the Sales Engineer, the role is to support the Sales, Account Management, Business Development and Capture team (the Sales Team) in Australia.  The role is based on crafting technical solution/architect capabilities in order to become customers’ preferred solutions and help order management.   The sales engineer will develop system architectures integrating sub-system solutions at the early stages during the Sales Capture Cycle and continuously refine them based on customer feedback to progress the opportunities.  The sales engineer will assist with the drafting of whitepapers and responding to RFI/RFP/RFT and will be the conduit between the Sales/BD Team and System/Product Engineering Teams therefore helping to reduce the sales cycle time through better communication and refined requirements presented to Engineering responses.   For complex demonstrations the Sales Engineer will also assist to develop the demonstration plan.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Accompany the Sales Team to meet with customers to understand their requirements and lead Account Managers in technical architect solutions.
  • Alongside the Account Managers, assist the CS Trade and Events Team in trade show management.
  • Turn Customer ‘problems’ into opportunities by utilising L3Harris’ breadth of Communication System products and capabilities to architect differentiated system solutions that meet Customers’ needs.
  • Present solutions to the Customer this could be in the form of Power Point Presentation, Demonstration and/or White Paper.
  • Provide guidance to the Sales Team on the Level of Effort for these solutions to assist the Customer in evaluating them against budget constraints.
  • Support the Sales Team in the qualification of these opportunities and Sales Capture Process.
  • Support the Sales Team in administering the Provisional Work Authority (PWA) budget and work detail.
  • Regularly engage the Product Line Management team to understand new products and the product development roadmaps in support of emerging Customer requirement.
  • Provide technical guidance to Sales Team and Customer as and when the need arises.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualifications and/or minimum 6 years relevant defence industry experience
  • Prior experience as a mechanical, electrical or avionics engineer or similar Field Service Representative in an appropriate discipline essential
  • Prior experience using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software
  • Proven experience in managing teams, KPI’s and contractual deliverables in defence industry
  • Requires strong knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
  • Typically viewed as having a specialty within discipline. May have broad knowledge of project management.
  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and/or a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
